Font Discovery Tool

The Font Discovery Tool quickly scans your computer to tell you how many fonts you have and what to do with the results.

One must install the tool with administrator rights or it will only scan the files that a person is authorized to access (your IT staff will be able to help here).

The “Number of Fonts Found” indicates how many fonts – including different weights, e.g. regular, bold, italic – are on this computer. Use this number when referring to the “Font Discovery Tool Results Guide.”

The “Number of Font Files” may be larger than the “Number of Fonts Found” if any fonts are found more than once on the computer.

Once the scan is complete, click on “Result Guide and More Info” to learn what the “number of fonts” is likely to mean and read the next steps to determine whether the “fonts found” are correctly licensed or not.

Remember, this is just a snapshot of the font situation on one computer. The number of fonts on each machine will vary depending on the type of work the user does.

To get an accurate view of the font licensing situation across your organization, a networked font discovery tool combined with a reconciliation service is necessary. General software discovery tools do not accurately find fonts.

What is Software Piracy

Software piracy is the unauthorized copying or distribution of copyrighted software. When you purchase software, you are actually purchasing a license to use it, not the actual software. The license is what tells you how many times you can install the software. If you make more copies of the software than the license permits, you are breaking the law. Whether you are copying, downloading, sharing, selling, or installing multiple copies of software onto personal or work computers, you are committing software piracy.
