Top and Emerging Markets

BSA continues to expand its global reach and efforts in the emerging markets where the software industry is experiencing the most rapid growth. In these critical markets, BSA works with governments and local industry to promote a vibrant IT sector that offers opportunity for both local and global software companies and their hardware partners. We advocate for the development of sound technology policies in these markets related to intellectual property protection, cyber security, government procurement and standards, and market access. BSA is pleased to welcome a growing number of member companies from these countries who are vital partners in our efforts.

  • China: China is the world’s second largest market for personal computers (PCs) but only the tenth largest market for PC software, reflecting its significant market potential. BSA is focused on working with the Chinese government to improve intellectual property protection and create a growing software market that is open and accessible to Chinese and global firms.
  • Emerging Markets: The BRIC countries — Brazil, Russia, India and China — present enormous opportunities for the software industry given the rapid growth of their PC markets. This market potential can be realized if these countries can effectively reduce software piracy and refrain from adopting policies that restrict market access for US and other foreign companies. BSA members are committed to these markets and to working with their governments to promote technology development and innovation and the growth of their IT sectors.
