Resolution Outlines the Importance of Information Networks to the Critical Infrastructure of Nation and Economy
The following is a statement from Business Software Alliance (BSA) President and CEO Robert Holleyman, commending the House of Representatives for passing a resolution honoring the sixth annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month:
“I am pleased that the U.S. House of Representatives has recognized the importance of cyber security by passing a resolution recognizing October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The resolution specifically calls for efforts among state, local and federal governments as well as the private sector to raise awareness and enhance the state of cyber security in the United States. With more than 220 million American adults using the Internet, the timing of this resolution is critical and more important than ever.
“Governments, businesses, and consumers require high levels of trust and security in the online world. The way to achieve this is through government leadership, public-private partnership, and strong incentives to develop and use secure information technology. I am pleased that the resolution also notes that the House of Representatives ‘intends to work with Federal agencies, national organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to encourage the development and implementation of existing and future cyber security consensus standards, practices, and technologies in order to enhance the state of cyber security in the United States.’
“BSA and its member companies firmly believe that the best path toward the development and use of innovative, secure technologies is through public-private partnerships. We look forward to working with Congress and the Obama Administration in developing cyber security as an essential component of our nation’s overall homeland security.”
