BSA Expresses Its Strong Support for President Obama’s Call to Spur American Economy Through Innovation

Administration agenda highlights key priorities for BSA member companies

Washington, DC – September 21, 2009

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) today expressed its strong support for the Obama Administration’s innovation agenda for strengthening America’s economy by focusing on sustainable growth and quality jobs. The agenda was unveiled today by President Barack Obama at the Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.

BSA President and CEO Robert Holleyman issued the following statement:

“The innovation strategy that President Obama has set forth is aligned with what the IT sector believes the role of government should be: to set ambitious goals, create incentives for innovation and investment, create a favorable business environment, and allow companies to compete.

“We are pleased to see President Obama recognize that innovation is a main driver for improving the American economy. By using the information technology (IT) sector as the foundation on which to build our strategies, we can answer the challenges facing our country today in every area from health care, energy, and infrastructure, to education and e-government.

“Pro-innovation policies are the key to our long-term future, and we are pleased to see that many of the specific elements of the President’s innovation strategy are ones that BSA members have long embraced.

“Investment in next-generation IT solutions such as health IT, green IT, broadband, and e-government are critically important in driving our economy forward and ensuring that the US maintains its global leadership position as the most innovative and competitive place for IT development and growth.”
